Donald Taylor
In August 2005 I was promoted to Associate Dean of Disability Services at CPCC. I am now responsible for budget management/oversight, supervision, providing guidance and direction as well as mission/philosophy development for Disability Services (DS). Prior to this position, I was Director of the ALC starting in June, 2003 after having been the Coordinator of the ALC since 2002.
I became Co-Director of Disability Services and Career Services (DS) in October, 2004.
As Director of the ALC, I was responsible for managing the budget as well as supervising full time and part time staff, who provide tutoring for students at all campuses of CPCC.
As Co-Director of DS and CS, I was responsible for managing the DS budgets as well as supervising full time and part time Interpreter staff members. These staff members provided interpreting services to the deaf/hard of hearing, lab services, tutoring and assistive technology, and administrative support.
Educational Background: I received my undergraduate degree from Cheyney State College, now Cheyney University, in 1975. Cheyney is located outside Philadelphia, PA and it is an HBCU (Historically Black College or University). I recieved my Master's Degree in Social Work from Case-Western Reserve University in 1985. Case is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
Educational Experience: I've taught at Bennett College in Greensboro and Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte before coming to CPCC.
At CPCC, I began as a part time instructor in the Human Services Technology Department in the 96-97 school year and became full time in 99-00 school year. Twice, I was honored with the Teaching Excellence Award.
At CPCC, I mostly taught the clinical courses in the Human Services Technology Program. As an instructor, I always considered the needs of future clients when teaching my students. It was important to me that each student learn the basics of the profession, so future clients would be well served.
Publications: I have written a group treatment curriculum entitled Self-Esteem and Expression Development for African-American Adolescents (S.E.E.D.). My curriculum is used as a primary text in the Group Process II class here at CPCC. I will soon begin working on an updated edition of the text, which I hope to have completed soon.
