Curb Unemployment - Jacob's Ladder Job Center, Inc. Hosts Third Annual Steppin’ Out Event African American Unemployment is close to 10% in Charlotte – Event Connects Statistic with a Face Charlotte, NC —Jacob's Ladder Job Center, Inc. hosts the third annual Steppin' Out Event to Curb Unemployment on Thursday, Oct. 18. This annual event is a fun, after work party that highlights unemployment in Charlotte by bringing clients face-to-face with Charlotteans who want to make a difference. Whitehead Manor will host 150 friends, donors and clients of Jacob's Ladder. Guest will enjoy live jazz music by The Brubakers, cuisine by Encore Catering, desserts by Epicurean and a live auction featuring antique jewelry from Perry's. This year at Steppin' Out, the Dewey Summers Award will be presented to Bill Vandiver to recognize his excellence in community service. Bill, a retired Bank of America executive, has given generously of himself to many organizations including Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Clemson and Queens Universities. A member of Jacob’s Ladder Long Range Planning Committee, he came to Jacob's Ladder as a life skills presenter and mock interviewer to fulfill his desire to work one-on-one with people who are working to find employment. “I believe that jobs and living wages are a fundamental ABC’s to solving the problems around poverty,” says Vandiver.
